Nature Through Pastels
Creating art with heart and nature in mind.
Bev Thompson, an artist based on Vancouver Island, draws inspiration from the island’s stunning natural beauty. Born in Victoria, B.C., she developed a deep connection to nature through her father, a dedicated outdoorsman. This love for the outdoors remains a central theme in her work, reflected in her vibrant and emotive pastel paintings.
After studying drawing and portraiture at the Vancouver Academy of Art and completing a two-year program in ceramic and textile design at Capilano University, Bev returned to Vancouver Island in 2004. It was then that she discovered pastel painting, a medium with which she quickly fell in love for its rich, expressive qualities. Her work focuses on animals and the natural world, capturing their essence with a unique blend of realism and emotional depth.
As a member of groups like Artists for Conservation, Pastel Pushers, and Pastel Artists of Canada, Bev’s work is well-regarded within the art community. This site showcases her artwork, offers insights into her creative journey, and provides information on commissioning pet portraits. "As an artist I am inspired by nature and wildlife and I try to capture the expressions of each wild subject in their native habitat. My studies focus on the relationships and connections between humans and the natural world surrounding us."
